World-class music on our doorstep: the Whiddon Autumn Festival, 16-20 September
Something special happens just up the road every September: the Whiddon Autumn Festival, five days of world-class music set in and around the picturesque and historic Whiddon Parishes of northern Dartmoor. This year it runs 16 to 20 September.
Expect choral performances, chamber music, art song and jazz, along with participation events and things for children, all with a dazzling line-up of young artists curated by local-born Artistic Director Freddie Crowley. The Moorlander called it "a delectable cocktail of youthful vitality, ambitious programming, topnotch musical integrity, and a breezy, easy-going amiability."
And it is priced so everyone can go. Every ticket is subsidised, several events are free or donate-what-you-can, under-25s go free to all the principal concerts, and 26 to 35s pay £8. If you claim Universal Credit, Jobseeker's Allowance, Disability Benefit, Housing Benefit or Pension Credit, there's a 50% discount with the code UC50 at checkout.
The festival days are on our village calendar, and the full programme and tickets are at whiddonautumnfestival.co.uk/events.
