The Village Shop
For all your daily essentials, the friendly village shop is owned and managed by the community - run mainly by volunteers with a part-time manager, backed by more than 200 local shareholders, and trading since 2010. Any surplus goes back into the community.
You'll find it next to the Village Hall - handy for the playing fields, tennis court, cricket pitch and play area - with good parking and an outside seating area with outstanding views over Dartmoor. Phone 01647 231711 or email info@spreytonvillageshop.co.uk; ring ahead and they'll have your order ready to collect.

What you'll find
Reasonably-priced everyday essentials, food, toiletries, newspapers and lots of Devon produce: fresh bread, milk and cakes daily, vegetables, beef, chicken and eggs from local farms, cheese from Devon and Cornwall dairies, local jams and chutneys, and a good selection of wines and local ales. Visiting? There are souvenir tea towels, bags and foodie gifts to take home.
The fish van will bring items pre-ordered by phone, as arranged.
Volunteering in your shop
Apart from the part-time manager, the shop is run entirely by volunteers - and more are always welcome. It's a great place to meet people: some open up first thing, some take a regular weekly slot, others fill gaps in the rota or help behind the scenes with bookkeeping or marketing. Full training is given and you'll be paired with an experienced volunteer until you're comfortable. Speak to the manager or any volunteer next time you're in.
